VC officials present program at continuing education conference

Victoria College Foundation Executive Director Amy Mundy and VC Workforce and Continuing Education Director Sherri Pall presented “You’re Doing What?: Successfully Awarding Scholarships for Noncredit Students” at the Texas Administrators of Continuing Education Conference on April 18 in Austin.

Mundy and Pall shared how Victoria College generated more than $500,000 in scholarships to students enrolled in noncredit courses for the past several years. The presentation detailed how VC partnered with businesses, the community and foundations to raise funds.

“We were also able to communicate how challenging it is to award scholarships to students enrolled in noncredit courses, but how the work is worth it when you see the impact these scholarships have in their lives,” Mundy said. “Sherri and I were honored to be able to share our findings with other colleges so they could also have an impact on workforce and continuing education students through private scholarships.”

Victoria College offers a variety of noncredit training courses, such as welding, nurse aide and truck driving. Many of the training courses can be completed in three months or less and lead to industry-recognized credentials.

“The TACE Conference is always a great opportunity for community colleges to share best practices,” Pall said. “I am extremely proud that Victoria College was able to share how we are assisting noncredit students on their path to success.”

“Victoria College is on the cutting edge of this type of initiative,” said Jennifer Yancey, vice president of college advancement and external affairs. “Those who attended the presentation were hungry for more information on how Amy and Sherri have accomplished what they have for our workforce and continuing education students. They are changing lives each and every day.”

TACE is a professional association for people working in workforce and continuing education at Texas community and technical colleges.
