Regent Street motor show: classics on parade in the capital

The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, in which more than 400 pre-1905 cars set off on their annual pilgrimage from Hyde Park to Madeira Drive on the coast, takes place this Sunday.

The day before, on November 5, one of the capital’s major shopping streets is closed to traffic for a celebration of motoring from its earliest days right up to the latest low-emissions electric- and hydrogen fuel-cell-powered cars; the Regent Street Motor Show.

More than 100 London to Brighton entrants will be on display, with a concours d’élégance judged by a panel of experts. As well as the overall winner, the categories include best original or  unrestored car and the public’s favourite.

Classics of more recent era haven’t been forgotten. The organisers of the annual Silverstone Classic will be previewing the 2017 event with a selection of historic racers, including a JPS Lotus Formula One car from the Seventies.
