NE1 Newcastle Motor Show gears up for action as supercars head to the city centre this July

It’s now full speed ahead for the NE1 Newcastle Motor Show as the city gears up for some supercar action.

Billed as one of the region’s biggest events of the year, the free family-friendly show is busy preparing for the arrival of star attractions including Aston Martins, Bentleys and Porsches which are set to draw crowds on the weekend of July 8-9.

Over the two-day run, visitors will be able to get up close and personal with 150 eye-catching vehicles as they will be exhibited on and around Grey Street.

They’ll be able to talk to the experts too.

And they’ll be plenty to see as this year’s show is more than twice the size, covering more than two square miles around the city centre and including a Fan Zone set up to house all sorts of motor-theme games, exhibits and activities.

Besides rally and racing cars, classics and the best of leading dealerships, the exclusive line-up of show-stopper cars has yet to be revealed – and the show has quite a track record to live up to.

In 2015 an Aston Martin DB9 GT went on show in Newcastle on what was only its second outing internationally.

Last year’s event showcased £10m worth of cars with stand-out attractions including the Renault Sport Formula 1 racing car and a rare Astin Martin DB11 which helped to draw more than 104,000 people over the weekend.

This year is set for similar success, with vehicles coming from across the UK as well as abroad: many of them not yet released for sale while others will only have been previously exhibited at VIP international motoring exhibitions.

Newcastle’s show is said to be the UK’s largest, free, open-air city centre motoring event and this year it has attracted new partners.

Ferry company DFDS is its headline sponsor and will be marking its first motor show venture with special discount offers at an exhibit stand.

And Lloyd Newcastle BMW is dealer partner for the event and will be taking the opportunity to show off some “jaw-dropping exhibits” of its own at the weekend.

Stephen Patterson, director of communications at NE1, said: “This year, the magnitude of the event is increasing and the whole city will feel part of the activities: a true festival of motoring with something for everyone.”

With themed zones mapped out for different types of vehicles and activities, the show will run from 10am-4pm on both days.
