GRAND RAPIDS – A member of a local school’s administrative staff was asked to speak at the Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) Annual Conference Exhibit Show, May 2-4.
Mike Klosowski, the Chief Financial Officer for Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker Schools, spoke on the topic of budgeting. Klosowski has been the CFO for 10 years and he was awarded the 10-Year MSBO Membership Pin at the conference as well.
Klosowski was selected to present by the associate executive director at MSBO because of his years of experience handling budgetary matters for a school. He is also a college instructor for three different colleges teaching accounting.
At the conference, Klosowski presented to a group of new school business officials on the topic of budgeting basics. This topic included discussion on how schools are funded, timelines for when budgets should and need to be prepared, the format of how to present the budget to school administration board of education as well as techniques used to make sure the budget is done actually.
Klosowski’s topic at the conference was listed as: “Budgeting Basics: A basic overview of the requirements and process of developing your school fiscal year budget, including important dates, information and format.”
The conference provides a forum at which member can get the latest information on the economy, best practices in school districts, school aid, legal issues as well as products and services.
MSBO offers certification through a series of classes for school business staff and Klosowski earned his Chief Financial Officer Certification in 2010. MSBO has regional groups across the state of Michigan where, regionally, school business officials gather for professional development and networking on topics related to the industry.
Klosowski has been the President of the Thumb Region School Business Officials and serves as President of the Saginaw Valley School Business Officials.
