From NE1 Motor Show to Tom Odell there’s plenty to do in and around Newcastle

As usual it’s all happening around Newcastle right now and there’s something to suit everyone’s taste in our list of what’s hot around town.

The city is known as a party hot-spot and there is always plenty of choice for something to do no matter what night of the week it is – and we’re not even talking this time about the range of bars and restaurants to pick from.

From theatre and music to fancy cars,, there’s something for everyone so we regularly come up with a top five ideas for things to do if you are at a loose end. Our new list ranges from the Mouth of the Tyne Festival and Jane Eye to the Durham Miners’ Gala.

It’s now full speed ahead for the NE1 Newcastle Motor Show as the city gears up for some supercar action.

Billed as one of the region’s biggest events of the year, the free family-friendly show is busy preparing for the arrival of star attractions including Aston Martins, Bentleys and Porsches which are set to draw crowds on the weekend of July 8 and 9.

Over the two-day run, visitors will be able to get up close and personal with 150 eye-catching vehicles as they will be exhibited on and around Grey Street.

Theatre Royal Newcastle

Based on the famous novel by Charlotte Brontë, this innovative re-imagining of the tale about the spirited heroine opens at the Newcastle theatre on Monday for a week-long run.

A collaboration between the National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic, the production has just enjoyed a critically-acclaimed season at the National Theatre in London.

Audiences can follow strong-willed Jane’s journey through life’s obstacles to find love at 7pm nightly until Saturday.

There will also be a 2pm matinee performance on Thursday and Saturday.

Durham Miners’ Gala


Lasgo will be at Loveshack

Durham Miner’s Gala is always a huge day for the city and nightclub Loveshack are rounding off the occasion in style with an after-party that will feature a star turn from a Noughties dance favourite.

Thousands of people will descend on Durham city centre for the annual event on Saturday, July 8, with Jeremy Corbyn speaking and festivities taking place right throughout the day and the Walkergate venue will be keeping the celebrations going into the early hours with a night of music including a performance from Lasgo.

Tynemouth Priory

Tom Odell, who will be appearing at the Mouth of the Tyne Festival 2017.

English singer-songwriter Tom Odell already has a platinum selling album, Brit Award and Ivor Novello Award to his name, and he’s only 26.

He comes to the Priory on Saturday, July 8, fresh from the release of his current album Wrong Crowd.

On the Sunday at the Priory, families will be entertained by headlining act Billy Ocean.

Jamie Lee Harrison on Britain’s Got Talent

Britain’s Got Talent’s Jamie Lee Harrison is ready to take top billing on home turf with a headline gig in Newcastle on Saturday.

The Low Fell singer/songwriter just missed out on a place in the final to the Missing People’s Choir in the last semi, finishing third, but rather than be disappointed he’s seizing the platform given to him and ready to put some more hard work in.

Jamie will take the stage at the Students Union for a show suitable for all ages.
