If you have a boat, don’t expect to get close to the second annual Dunkirk-Lake Shore Air Show by sea.
The U.S. Coast Guard will set up a temporary safety zone on Lake Erie near Dunkirk from 12:45 p.m. Saturday, July 1 to 5:15 p.m. Sunday, July 2, the Department of Homeland Security announced in the Federal Register.
Boats and people will be prohibited from entering the safety zone during the air show, which begins at 1 p.m. both days, according to the City of Dunkirk.
“The Captain of the Port Buffalo has determined that potential hazards associated with an air show over a navigable waterway pose a significant risk to public safety and property within the immediate location of the show,” according to Homeland Security. “This temporary safety zone is necessary to protect participants, spectators and vessels from the hazards associated with aerial stunts, low flying aircraft and aircraft maneuvers.”
