Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah opened the large-scale cultural programme Genesis Spirit: A Showcase of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Zhejiang today.
He said the programme is an important co-operation initiative of the Ministry of Culture and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to preserve intangible cultural heritage.
Programme highlights include an exhibition showcasing 58 intangible cultural heritage items of Zhejiang, which show how people in the Jiangnan region lived in the past.
Visitors can experience the diverse performing arts and exquisite handicrafts of Zhejiang and explore the wisdom of Chinese culture.
The free exhibition runs from 9am to 8pm daily until June 19 in the Central Library Exhibition Gallery.
Three thematic talks in Putonghua will be held to tie in with the exhibition.
Another highlight of the programme is a dance drama performed by Ningbo Song Dance Theatre.
The programme is presented by the Ministry of Culture and the Home Affairs Bureau, and organised by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and the Leisure Cultural Services Department.
